Important Integumentary System Glands
Sebaceous and Sweat Glands
Sebaceous glands are plump glands associated with the hair follicles. they are made up of specialized epithelium cells that secrete an oil mixture known as sebum. The sebum keeps the hair soft, pliable, and waterproof.
Sweat Glands are found all over the skin. they consist of a tiny tube that originates as a ball-shaped coil in deep in the dermis. The coiled part of the gland is closed at its deep end and it lined with sweat secreting epithelial cells.

Eccrine Glands
Eccrine glands are the most abundant sweat glands and they actively secrete throughout life. They are commonly found on the forehead, neck, back, and chest. They are able to respond to stimuli in order to help maintain homeostasis: When a person temperature increases, the sweat is carried away from the coil by a duct that opens at the surface of the skin. Even though a minute amount of the sweat contains salts and wastes, 99% of it is water.

Apocrine Glands
Apocrine glands are mostly found in the underarm and groin area. the ducts open onto adjacent hair follicles a=which secrete an odorous, product that is thicker than eccrine sweat. The glands become active when a person reaches puberty and secretions occur when a person is emotionally upset, frightened, in pain, or during sexual arousal. When they are metabolized by bacteria in the skin, the secretions develop an odor.
Ceruminous Glands
Ceruminous glands are another type of specialized sweat glands and are found in the external ear canal and secrete ear wax.
