Smooth Muscle
- Is composed of shorter ells with tapering ends that are organized in sheets
- Unstriated (not striped)
- Have one central nucleus
- Found in the walls of hollow organs (stomach, intestines)
- Function in involuntary actions
Cardiac Muscle
- Is composed of a branching network of cells that are joined from end to end
- The cell to cell contact forms specialized junctions (intercalated discs)
- Striated
- Have one nucleus per cell
- Only found in the heart
- Function in the involuntary movement of the heart
